Asma Arshad Mahmood

ABOUT

Asma Arshad Mahmood is a Canadian/Pakistani visual artist and curator whose work explores globalized artistic context. She has curated international multi disciplanry art events, exhibition and co-founded international festivals, in Visual Arts, Music, Performance, Dance and Film

Currently serving as the Artistic Director of an Ontario based non profit multi Disciplinary Arts organization, Asma programs and produces award winning festivals and international arts events, including TD Mosaic Festival of Mississauga , Rock The Colesium Independent Music Festival Mississauga , Mosaic International South Asian Film Festival and Virsa Visual Arts Project.

Asma received her MFA from York University and has exhibited her work nationally and internationally. She has represented Canada at international Biennials and seminars and is currently in the process of development and implementation of an international education and exhibition project.

Mahmood has been recognized for her contribution to the community and arts and culture and was awarded Queens diamond jubilee medal in 2014.

Asma also served as the community editorial board member for Toronto Star and contributes regularly to various publications and blogs. She has been the editor for the annual publication for CCAI.

Asma's artwork examines identity, memory and representation as ongoing subjects of painting and installation.
